Doctors.ghatal.co.in — UX Case Study
A local doctor directory for Ghatal, West Bengal
Project Overview
Doctors.ghatal.co.in — a simple, accessible directory that helps residents of Ghatal and nearby areas find and contact local doctors quickly, without relying on word-of-mouth or outdated pamphlets.
⚠️ Fill in: one-line elevator pitch (e.g. "A directory that connects 10,000+ Ghatal residents to verified local doctors in under 2 minutes.")
Context (Brief)
Ghatal is a semi-urban town where most people find doctors through word-of-mouth, local shop recommendations, or by physically visiting chambers to check availability. There was no single, trustworthy digital source listing doctors, their specialties, timings, and contact details.
Problem Statement
People in Ghatal have no fast, reliable way to find the right doctor nearby — by specialty, location, or availability — leading to wasted trips and delayed care.
Crafted Solution
A lightweight, mobile-first directory website where users can search or browse doctors by specialty and locality, view chamber timings and contact info, and reach out directly — no login, no clutter.
⚠️ Fill in: 2–3 lines on the core solution/feature set (e.g. search + filter, click-to-call, map pin, category browsing)
Timeline
| Team | Solo |
| Your Role | UX Researcher + Designer (research to final design) |
| Duration | [fill in — e.g. 3 weeks] |
| Tools Utilised | Figma, [add others — e.g. Google Forms for research, FigJam] |
Project Goals
- Make it effortless to find a doctor by specialty/locality in under a minute
- Build trust through clear, accurate, up-to-date information
- Design for low digital-literacy users and patchy mobile networks common in small towns
- Keep the experience fast and lightweight on low-end phones
⚠️ Fill in / adjust based on your actual goals
Research Part
Persona
⚠️ Fill in: 1–2 personas — e.g. "Ramesh, 45, shop owner, needs a nearby ENT for his son, uses a basic Android phone, not comfortable with complex apps"
Target Audience
Residents of Ghatal and surrounding villages (Daspur, Paschim Medinipur) — primarily families and elderly patients seeking local doctors, largely on mobile.
Analysis
⚠️ Fill in: What did you learn from talking to people / observing how they currently find doctors? (e.g. "80% relied on neighbours or pharmacy recommendations", "Most searched Google but found no reliable local listing")
Brainstorming & Ideation
Your Approach
⚠️ Fill in: how you moved from problem to ideas — sketches, competitor review, card sorting, etc.
Possible Solutions
⚠️ Fill in: 2–3 directions you considered before settling on the final one (e.g. WhatsApp-based listing vs. website vs. app)
Sketches & Wireframes
⚠️ Add wireframe images here — low-fi sketches of homepage, search/filter, doctor profile, contact flow
Iterations
⚠️ Fill in: what changed between v1 and final (e.g. simplified filters, bigger tap targets, added Bengali language toggle)
Final Designs
⚠️ Add clean, readable final screens: Home / Search & Filter / Doctor Profile / Contact
Design System / Styleguide
⚠️ Fill in: typography, color palette, components used — keep it simple since this is a directory site, likely a small, functional system (buttons, cards, tags for specialties)
Prototype
⚠️ Link your Figma prototype here
User Testing
Results
⚠️ Fill in: what you found when real users tried the live site (e.g. "Users found the search bar quickly but missed the specialty filter")
Changes Done
⚠️ Fill in: what you fixed post-testing since launch
Conclusion
Challenges
⚠️ Fill in: e.g. "Getting accurate, updated doctor data was harder than the design itself", "Designing for low digital literacy without dumbing it down"
Learnings
⚠️ Fill in: e.g. "Learned how much trust-building matters in local, personal services like healthcare"
Outcomes
⚠️ Fill in: since it's live — any real numbers? (visitors, doctors listed, feedback received)
Scope of Improvements
- Add appointment booking (currently directory-only)
- Multi-language support (Bengali/English toggle)
- Doctor verification badges
- Map-based search
⚠️ Adjust to your actual roadmap
What Could Have Been Better?
⚠️ Fill in: honest reflection — e.g. "Could have done more structured user interviews before building v1"
